Sun moon stars with Jude Hill and Stitching a Story

Jude Hill is offering her little SunMoonStar project.

5 years ago she had it also on her blog "Spirit Cloth". This one will not be the 

same - as she tells - because handsewn things will never be the same.

Ich mache mit bei Jude Hill's kleinem Projekt "SunMoonStars", 

das sie vor Jahren schon mal in ihrem Blog "Spirit cloth" gezeigt  hat.

Es wird nicht das gleiche sein, sagt sie, es ist jedesmal anders,

wenn man von Hand etwas näht.

Man soll sie ruhig kopieren, sagt sie grosszügigerweise.

Da brauchte ich jetzt dunkle Stoffe, am besten dunkelblau. Also überfärbte ich

mit Procion XP marineblau ein paar Läppchen.

I needed some dark fabric and dyed it with Procion XP blue - 

in fact overdyed some prints - I like how it came out.

Jude färbt mit selbst gezogenem Indigo aus ihrem Garten. 

Das kann ich leider nicht nachmachen.

Jude dyes with home grown indigo - I love this idea, too, I am not sure

it would grow in my gardens - and who would wait so long?

Meine "Sonnen" scheinen gleich unterzugehen - so rot sind sie -  mein Stoff

ist zu dünn und verzieht sich. (Ich habe nur eine kleine Auswahl hier in Frankreich)

My suns are of a very sunset-like colour - and the fabric is too thin -

not keeping the shape

Ein fünfzackiger Stern wird gezeichnet.

With the help of DH a five-pointed star came to life.

A paper tree grew very fast in the forbidden garden

Eine kleine Spitzenprobe, die die Blumen auf dem Kleid der Zauberin

reflektieren soll. Oben rechts sieht man sie mit dem neugeborenen Kind im Arm

im Nebel verschwinden.

Look at the sorceress on top of the photo - she is holding the promised baby

in her arms disappearing in the mists....

- I am still not sure what I will do with her. An empty cradle .....?

Rapunzels Kleid ist jetzt noch schöner und die Zauberin hat

Salat in ihrem Korb.

Das Mädchen ist hier 12 Jahre alt und wird von der Zauberin sehr geliebt.

First embellishment of Rapunzel's dress - I am sure it is made of silk

which speaks for the sorceress - The 12 year old girl is very well guarded - 

too well, as we will see soon. 

My pocket

A pocket which I started when Karens Ruane's class "swathed in stitch"

was still running - and then a long interval of no sewing.

But I finished it at last.

The piece of white machine-made lace

- broderie anglaise - was part of the christening robe

of our daughter - when she was a three months old sweet baby.

It was hanging long from the arm of her goduncle who carried her to

the altar in church nearly exactly 49 years ago.

I stitched yellow and green embellishments on it. There is a strip of

yellowish-greenish fabric fixed with French knots and buttonhole stitches.

Fly stitches into the holes.

I made bumps which I learned from Karen. And points of

fine handkerchiefs, cutting them apart mercilessly.

 

It is hanging at the shutter of our farmhouse.

We are awaiting new neighbours for coffee and cake

 

 

They came and we had a lovely talk.

Then we made a walk - oh my, how lovely this tree is with its moss.

We are looking on a neighbour's farm - about 900 m high.

 

Farmers can't have more than 25 cows - there is not enough

pastureland. They sell the milk and are producing cheese -

Münsterkäse. They are very much supported by the state

as no family can live of only 25 cows, not in France and nowhere else

in Europe.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

What I call cover cloth

Yes, I took the name from Karen Ruane -

her cover cloth is wonderful, mostly white.

Mine is exploding of colour.

I am embroidering whatever comes to my mind.

This feather is taken from Jude Hill.

I sent her two - 4 years ago. She got feathers

from all over the world and she is joining them into a quilt

she calls Home (This is the main page)

But look at her side bar for "Home" and you will see the

newest development.

I have a try in needle lace - here

a little triangle - not very well. I know my mistake.

I forgot to span threads from right to left and start

again at the left side. It would be more even.

I am practising.

 

Spots in colour scattered over the cloth.

That's it. DH thinks it is a table cloth.

I am repeating on and on "it's a cover cloth.

Nobody will ever see it on a table - it is far too jazzy!

...and it changes whenever I take it into my hands.

 

 

 

 

 

My pin pillow in action

I know, I know, the majority of orderly stitchers will

be horrified at the sight of my - very practical - pin-pillow.

I am not - I need all those threads instantly,

for a project which is very coloured,

I need threaded needles also with short threads in them

to make all those knots and bullion stitches all over

this future cover cloth.

It is a morphling! It changes its face each time I take it

into my hands.

I am making this as well - another project inspired by the class

of Karen Ruane - Swathed in Stitch. For this I need only white thread,

white cotton a broder, a little light blue thread for the hexagons.

And embroidery floss in purple.

 

It is nearly finished here. I pulled out the inner cushion which

will be stuffed with lavender when there will be fresh one.

For now I stuffed it with polyester filling to give it volume for the photo.

Enjoy the warmer temperatures - spring is near!

Bag in tree - and holes - lacy holes again

I got the pattern of my friends - they got it from their friends

And those friends got it from somewhere else....

So this is my fabric made market basket.

It is large like an African basket made of something like straw

which are very popular -

I own at least three - and this seems not to be enough so I made

one of fabric strips, not because I want another basket but because

"the journey is the reward" - der Weg ist das Ziel. It is all about the making.

 

I have enough stuff to fill it, for instance with fabric scraps or other ..

but not market products, certainly not potatoes. It would hang through.

(This might be a very German expression... if somebody would

correct me.....it would be fine)

 

 

And here the embellshment - a very strange flower - I will just

leave it there till I make a better one.

 

Apart from basket making I am making "lace" - by machine -

appliqueing old lace which I cut off from an very old pillow cover.

My lace can look like that, too, very delicate.

You know that I am in a class of Karen Ruane "Swathed in Stitch".

 

And for the cross stitches I have to make decisions - always assisted

by the already well-known Bird peeping across my shoulder -

more exactly lying about on my table offering clever advices.

 

Trying out how large the letter will be

still without fabric underneeth - what a crazy idea.

My next letter will be an "L" for lace.

I will keep my needle in motion.....

Tree on Hill - and cross stitch battle

After two days of rain and many more before without sun we made a walk in

the hills not far from home

We loved to see this lonely tree. ---

And all afternoon I did cross stitches - letters - over waste canvas

The method is good to get regular stitches - but to pull out the threads is

troublesome.

Letter "C" is in process of being freed - the "T" will be next.

I damp stretched it - and also it looks like the red thread bleeded it didn't.

It must be the shade or what ever. Damp stretching is fantastic and thanks

to Karen Ruane I know about this method of not ironing the embroidery but

stretch it with pins and moisten it and wait over night.

This was my first try - home-dyed pinkish-red thread.

It destroyed my letters T and S - So I started a new piece.

Utensilo - and a new class

My patchwork friend was so kind to send us

an instruction sheet -- thank you Edith -

we are in constant contact through our iPads

nothing better than that (we are four to chat and

exchange thoughts and everything of interest)

And I was not lazy and tried out if it works.

It did: I used embroidered swatches for the sides.

There are four pockets inside - and four outside

It was very thick to sew. I did the lower rim by hand being unable to

sew it by machine.

 

The next one will be made of simple fabrics. ----------

I gifted myself with a class by Karen Ruane which will last twelve weeks

(how wonderful). It is called Swathed in Stitch which means in German

something like "Eingehüllt in Stich(en)"

 

 

We started with letters. Transferring letters onto strong paper

There will be stitches through the paper.

(Why did I make this photo black and white -heaven knows)

I was searching for letters in internet - Pinterest. There is an

enormous choice of different letters, beautiful ones - it could

become a passion to collect them.

 

 

 

I intend to dedicate this page to the word "Stitch".

The "H" is still missing here.

 

And you know I am making this all inbetween household and

nana naps and walks and coffee time with DH - I feel like a

juggler (Jongleur in German).

More of the pillow and paper class

Pillow 2 - detail

First the detail with a needle tatted ornament.
I am simply dabbling with needle tatting - so experts see my
mistakes. The turning was not always done in the right way.

And here is the completed pillow - I am not sure it will be a pillow

after all. It has got rather a funny shape: 32 x 21,5 cm.

It was in Karen Ruane's class on Pillows and Papers. - Mostly handsewn.

This morning in the park - wild geese

I practised the pin pillow fabrication -

and I had the idea of making 7 little balls instead of 6 - and it worked fine.

Mini-class

It is spring - and it seems that it made not only juices
of nature rise but also mine:

It is called Pillows and Pages - and this looks so promising...

I have to plan now for the pillow - large or small -
colour or no colour, coordinating fabrics -
everything else I hope is on my shelves and in my boxes.
