In the window of the pharmacy

A most wonderful scene of the fairy tale about the princess
on the pea - figures are about 15 cm tall

Sorry about the blurred photos - couldn't do it otherwise

It is the pharmacy in the center of town Hvar, Croatia
Taken in the evening when we make our walk without bikes
Look at those elaborate joints of the curbs - they must be so old

And then today I made the recipe of Radka with apricots.

When I left home to the internet bar it was still hot -
and it is sticking to the bottom - I had no better tin than the old pot.
I am in our holiday appartment!
Doesn't matter. It is for DH an me only.
A glass of wine tonight and thinking of you, Radka, while enjoying.

In Hvar

Ein Venezianischer Löwe - a Venetian Lion - which is omnipresent
in this town. It was under Venetian reign from the 13th centurywith short breaks
till 1797.
The open book under his paw connotes peace - there were times
when the lion was scrulptured with a closed book.

and a normal little dog - standing not far from me under the lion
I thought it is funny to post them both.
Slowly I am understanding the pattern -
after "tinking" (knitting backwards) many times -

Spider-web - a bag - fleamarket and a souvenir

Work of a busy spider - does she want to catch some insect?
I amsure it is a she...
See our rusted gate - that's why we call the farmhouse a villa

Spider-web

The bag:

As it was before - lying about

as it is now around my hip or on the shoulder

It accompanied me to the vide-grenier - fleamarket - marché aux puces

and there not only old rubbish but also goodies to eat

Sausages on the vide-grenier

And then my true find - lovely old lace - for near to nothing

This one is tatted - old but without any flaw.

Tatted lace
I am not sure how the left one was made

it it so delicate and fine

Detail of tatted lace
How long a young lady or a woman sat to make it -
so many years ago - and I get it for 1 (one) Euro!
More lace - can you hear my scream of delight, Karen?

And then the souvenir of Hvar, Croatia, with

daughter - granddaughter - and happy grandparents

Meanwhile I washed and damp stretched the pieces

of lace - and they came out wonderfully.

Now, what to do with them - just look at them?

I will certainly keep the tatted girdle-like one complete

as it is.

Still Hvar

The fortress and its walls of the town Hvar, Island Hvar (Croatia)

4000 inhabitants in non-touristic seasons

It is the land side of the town Hvar - 4000 inhabitants -

in non-touristic seasons - 70 km long and 3 - 4 km large.

Many people work on the continent and older school

children as well have to take the catamaran or ferryboat to Split.

The port for the ferryboat

The port in Stari Grad, Hvar (Croatia) where the ferryboats leave

Tourists travelling

They are waiting for the catamaran in town - high season -

the queue is longer than 100 m

Before our guests came

It is under the eucalyptus tree

Friendship bracelet

I puzzled a lot with this meandering pattern

for which I used crochet cotton.

Walk in the evening

In southern countries people go out in the evening
So we are leaving at half past 8 pm with our bikes
we park them somewhere and then stroll around.

Boutique - entrance round the corner
Shops and boutiques are still open -
Pavement
I am looking at the pavement
Pavement
pounded by hand - I believe ---- himself at beautiful girls in the shops

Empty road
no people? They are sitting in restaurants and cafés
watching football - it is about 9 pm

Sunset in Hvar

It was really like that yesterday in the evening

I advanced a little bit... I love the pulled stitches

Hvar by day

Impressions of Hvar in the morning
Old stone houses but with air conditioning
no cars ever go here - before in old times donkeys or mules did the transport
The last one I saw was in the 70ies.
But it happens that we can see a donkey in the fields: We joke and say it is for
the tourists.
The town is built on a hill
Today it is seen as embellishment - we were told that they had curtains hanging on
rods - on either side of the window

everywhere stairs - donkeys or mules could climb them -
The main plaza - by chance empty - and 3 minutes later ....

people in this side road - which is leading upwards another hill
and all over cafés and restaurants. They renovated this old palace
it was looking always like that since 1470 - never finished
beause the building owner died and left his widow who could not afford
the completion -
The photo is of 1912 - a beautiful Roman style window can be seen here
----- covered by palm trees on my own not very expert photo above.

Nice stonework

Another palace
Cute boats in the window of a little shop - the shelf is wavy

We go further up-hill

A glimps of the castle above the town - it is much farther than it looks here.

And these are the real colours of the Adriatic Sea - no wonder
that I love blue and green together.

Solstice in Hvar (Dalmatia)

Sunset of the longest day in the year
as seen from our terrace

Again a very unsharp photo.
Something has to happen there.....
