Cilaos

Here you are - It is finally totally absolutely finished

With a border. Ready for the drawer to be stored, where else?

I made my exercise.

Why the inner threads are so loose... I have no answer. Wharp and weft

might not be in an even-weave. This can be - I took a material

which I had on hand and counted the threads myself - 28 ct.

But my friends said it is ok - it is hand-made, handicraft, a proof of my

perseverance.

  1. This is so pretty and I know it was so much work! The threads between the motifs are loose because originally they were long enough to go over and under the crosswise threads that you removed. This requires more length. As a weaver I don't place the weft (crosswise) yarns perfectly straight before I beat them in - that would cause the cloth to become more narrow. I place the weft at an angle and then beat it in so it has more length to travel over and under. I don't know how traditional lacemakers solved this problem. Have you washed and blocked your sample after it was finished? Perhaps it would shrink up a bit. I don't know. Just a passing thought.

  2. no no no not in a drawer, this needs to be used and seen and admired on a sideboard or similar, it is lovely. I have quite a few small mats like these but mine are hardanger and have them scattered about the place.

  3. You are very patient Anneliese. I agree with Margaret, after all that work and perseverance it needs to be on display. Very pretty

  8. i love it. it turned out beautiful.....but don't put it in a drawer....you could make a pouch and tack this down to one side. it would be beautiful and get lots of attention.....or a pillow.
